Scopes Monkey Trail Essays - Philosophy Of Religion,

Scopes Monkey Trail A group of scientists got together and decided that mankind had come a long way and no longer needed God. They picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they no longer needed Him. The scientist walked up to God and said, God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We are able to clone people and do other miraculous things, so why don't you just go on and get lost. God listened patiently to the man and after the scientist had finished talking, God replied, Very well, if you think you no longer need Me how about this? Let's have a man making contest. The scientist replied, OK, great! But God added, Now, we're going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam. The scientist confidently responded, Sure, no problem. He bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt. God lovingly looked at him, grinned, and said, No! You get your own dirt! Just as the scientist was blind to the fact that there would have been no science without God, we realize that religion cannot be explained without the help of science. In other words, science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. Without God science would never have started. There are too many holes in the story of evolution for it to be believable without adding in divine intervention at some point. It is a far stretch to say that Humans, the most complex things on the face of the earth, evolved from a simple singled-celled organisms. Without some place where God comes in and breaths life into the human, there is no way it is possible. In the same way, science is the main area where humans have the freedom to think and explore the nature of everything from human origin to the composition of the atom. Religion must also realize that science gives us a lot. The people in the Scopes Monkey trial were unwilling to accept science as a way to explain the origin of the human species. I dont think that the teachers goal was to turn his pupils away from religion. He just wanted to show him that there are other things to take into consideration. Just as religion is the only way to do and explain some things. Modern medicine is a perfect example of this. If religion had not allowed science to do its job, disease and sickness would ravage the world. Science has brought us to the point were we can almost reproduce body organs for transplant. Since religion finally permits science to do its job, your son or daughter might not have to wait years and endanger their lives waiting for an organ if something were to go wrong. When you have science and religion paired together, almost anything can be explained, proven, researched, cured, justified, you name it. They are the two things that keep the human mind wanting a better explanation. The more we explore the two, the more answers we will have. In the Scopes Monkey Trials, the people of the small Virginia town were unwilling to except science as a legitimate way to even help explain something as holy as creation. I am glad that we are no longer like that. We try our best to accept science and religion together, the way they were meant to be. Science and religion work together in all aspects of life and we just need to realize that. Take writing this paper for example. God gave me the brain to type the correct words on the screen. Science and technology allow me to type it into a computer where I can easily make changes and prints it off on a sheet of clean white paper. If I had to write it by hand it would not be legible or as grammatically correct. By combining my God given writing talents and the science and technology of the age, I can produce and grammatically correct legible essay. Its amazing what science and religion can do together. how life began essays

how life began essays About 4.6 billion years ago the Earth was a fiery mass of liquid matter. As the hot mass began to cool, a rock crust formed on the Earth's surface, and the gases escaping from the newly made rocks formed the early atmosphere. The early atmosphere was made up of methane, ammonia, water vapor and hydrogen. There was no free oxygen in the early atmosphere. As the Earth cooled further the water vapor condensed, flooding the Earth with rain to form the oceans. Life begun in the harsh environments that dominated the early Earth, such as hot springs, submarine volcanic vents or in hot rocks deep within the Earth. Early forms of bacteria began to evolve about 3500-3800 million years ago, when there was little oxygen in the atmosphere. They produced energy using sources other than oxygen, such as nitrogen and sulfur compounds. Species similar to these early bacteria survive today and are found only in harsh environments, such as hot springs or deep in the Earth, where there is no oxygen. Oxygen is poisonous to these species. Some of the early bacteria evolved in a way to use the sun's energy to create a chemical reaction called photosynthesis. The earliest living things on Earth were primitive forms of bacteria. They were single-celled organisms with their genetic material free in their cells, not inside a nucleus. These types of cells are known as prokaryotes. About 1800 million years ago, new, complex, single-celled organisms evolved. They were called eucaryotes and had their DNA inside a nucleus, like the cells of most organisms today. Eucaryotes also had organelles inside the cell that performed a number of important functions. Some organelles are derived from free-living bacteria that became incorporated into, and formed beneficial relationships with, these early eucaryotes. ...

List a few jobs that have been rendered obsolete by technological Essay

List a few jobs that have been rendered obsolete by technological change. Are some of these jobs so unpleasant that they are be - Essay Example With the stunning invention of computer hardware/software, the world witnessed a heavy downsizing in almost every industrial sector. Millions of people especially unskilled workforce was deprived of their jobs as a result of neck breaking inventions. As and how the technologies kept on getting upgraded and excelled, more and more jobs and the machines, which the world’s people were amazed on, became scrapped. Telex machine/Telex operator is the best-fit example to support my statement above. Telex machine, which was once perhaps deemed to be the fastest source of communications, no longer exists. I understand the basis of jobs that became obsolete is â€Å"Necessity is the mother of invention† more than jobs themselves being â€Å"unpleasant†. Before the invention of email/internet, people were comfortable with the postal service and did not feel the postal service being unpleasant or inconvenient. However, now enjoying the facility of email/internet, we now feel embarrassing sending things by mail.

How to Lead a Long and Healthy Life Speech Essay

Good Health starts from the very infancy. It is here that protection and care is needed, so that each organ functions well, each organ develops naturally, and there are no deformities, disabilities and diseases but often the health of children remain neglected, with the result that they grow unhealthily and that affects their education as well. A healthy child develops into a healthy adult. In case the child does not grow properly, and he remains handicapped in some way, his ill-health spoils his adult life. He cannot join any active service; he cannot be a successful professional, nor can he live his life happily. Health is real wealth. A healthy person is an asset to himself, to his family and to his community. On the other hand an ailing person is a burden on all. He is a danger for coming generations because heredity plays an important part in this respect. Health is the pivot upon which a man’s whole personality and its well-being depend. An ailing and aching body saps the enthusiasm for pursuit. Unwholesome feelings and sensations retard the pace of functional activity, economic development and spiritual uplift. Health cannot be achieved merely by taking one or two pills everyday or by observing a few restrictions. It can be achieved only by understanding what health is, on what it depends and then applying this knowledge in every-day life. The care of the body regarding food, cleanliness, exercise, rest and protection against disease, are essential for the preservation of sound health. Life is for living. Without health, life is deprived of not only much of its usefulness but also its joys and pleasures. The stream of life will be rich and lasting in proportion to the sources which nourish it. These sources belong to every person. They are food, exercise, and proper posture, care of bodily functions, avoidance of alcohol and tobacco and wholesome mental and emotional attitudes.

Simple- its potential negative effects on an organization can be profound, and can impact every aspect of a company’s ability to operate efficiently.Entrepreneur published an insightful article on the hidden costs of employee turnover  in which  Toronto-based human resources consultant Tom Armour discussed the hidden ways turnover can have a financial effect on a company, including:The cost  of  the work that isn’t getting done when an employee is missingCo-workers not being able to work to their full potential because they’re picking up the slack from missing e mployeesA loss of credibility for management when a work environment has a reputation for excessive turnover and employees grow discouraged that they will thrive thereSo, it’s clear that employee turnover is a potential problem for any business and that its potential effects are wide and deep. That said, there are some strategic steps that key management, HR teams, and hiring personnel can take in an effort to minimize its prevalence. Forbes recently published an article that highlights several key ways to reduce employee turnover.Consider using these 5 strategies in your company.hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});1. Hire the right people.Keeping employees starts with hiring the right employees. You likely  hire employees  who have strong skills that match your open position. But, how well do your employees fit in with your business’s culture? You must hire employees who are behavioral and cultural fits for the job. You can ask emplo yees  behavioral interview questions  to find out how they react in certain situations. Also, during interviews, be sure to show candidates around your business and tell them about your workplace culture. Candidates will hopefully eliminate themselves if they don’t fit in.If employees don’t fit in with your work environment, I guarantee they won’t be happy. They won’t fit in, they won’t get along with their co-workers and they’ll feel lonely. An outstanding candidate that doesn’t match the behaviors and culture of your business won’t stay around long. They’ll take their skills somewhere where they fit in.2. Offer competitive pay and benefits.People want to be compensated well. They need to cover standard expenses like housing, utilities, and food- and most people want enough money for extras, too. If you don’t pay your employees well, they’ll find a business that will. When determining compensation for y our employees, it’s good to do market research on wages. Find out what your competitors pay their employees. Research a  competitive salary range  based on similar jobs in your local area. For example, if you want to hire an IT specialist in San Francisco, you should consider what other businesses in San Francisco pay their IT specialists. And you can’t simply give employees paychecks and be done. Employees want good benefits, too. You must offer competitive benefits that your employees want. Learn about  common employee benefits. Then, find out what benefits competitors and other businesses in your area offer.3. Give praise freely and often.Your employees need encouragement and recognition. When they do something right, show your appreciation. When they finish a large, difficult project or submit a project before the deadline, congratulate them. Show them that you see their hard work.Of course, don’t feel like you have to shower employees with praise for e verything they do. You don’t have to praise employees for small, everyday tasks. But, when employees truly do something worth congratulations, give it.The goal here is to create an encouraging, positive work environment. When employees feel respected, acknowledged, desired, and motivated, they are more likely to stay. Best of all, this method to decrease employee turnover is free. You just have to use your words.4. Guide employees down a career path at your company. If employees stay stagnate in one job for too long, they might search for another job where they can advance. Most employees want to increase their skills and knowledge and move up the career ladder. Showing employees a projected career path gives them a sense of direction and purpose. You should lay out an ideal plan for your employees. Where can they go from their current position? Maybe it’s an upward or lateral move. Or, maybe your employees can earn more responsibility in their current position. Whatever it is, let your employees know how they can advance. After you’ve set up a plan with them, you can help employees advance along their career path. Provide them with coaching quarterly by recommending ways to advance. You can also offer employees training opportunities. Give them plenty of chances to learn new skills and put them into practice in their current job.5. Don’t shy away from flexibility. If it’s possible, allow  flexible work schedules that let employees adjust their work time and location. That way, employees can create a work-life balance for themselves. Your workers can pursue things beyond work, go to appointments, and take care of their families- all while getting their work done on time.Flexible work schedules might not be possible for all businesses; your employees might need to be at your business at specific times. But there still might be ways you can offer flexibility, such as the option of working from home one day a week or adjusting a s tart time for the day. There you have it- if you’re interested in minimizing the effects of employee turnover in your organization, take advantage of the tips listed here to help keep your business operating effectively.

Medical Ethics Essay Sample

Medical Ethics Essay Sample Essay on Medical Ethics Medical practitioners are people who help us cure our sicknesses. They studied for many years just to acquire all the knowledge they have. They have different specialties designated for different types of diseases. Medical practitioners are the most reliable health care personnel to assess and treat disabilities and diseases that are either caused by both internal and external. Some of us may think that their profession is perfect because they can do anything and everything they want worth their patients, but the people in the medical field also have to follow proper ethical procedure. Medical or health care ethics has different versions. During the Byzantine era, there was a manuscript where Hippocratic Oath Medical or health care ethics is considered as moral principles that apply values in the practice of clinical medicine and scientific research. The medical or health care ethics applied to the concepts of health care setting. The application and significance of ethics are based on the set of values that the professionals can refer to when they experience either a conflict or confusion. The values that are included in the medical or health care ethics are respect for the concepts of beneficence, autonomy, justice, and non-maleficence. Medical or health care ethics was first understood and applied in 1803 by academic researchers. Thomas Percival was a medical practitioner who published a book that describes the expectations and requirements and professional expectations in the medical field. Code of Ethics began to be understood and then started to spread world wide. The concept has been amended; however, many academic professionals kept the essence of Percivals written document on medical or health care ethics. The medical or health care ethics has at least four basic principles. These are justice, beneficence, autonomy, and non-maleficence. These four principles are essential to evaluate the difficulties and merits to health care procedure and expenses. Autonomy requires that the patient should provide their full consent when making decisions about their health care condition. The medical practitioner should always ask for the patient’s consent before addressing a procedure. The decision of the patient must not be affected by the medical practitioners persuasion and it must always be his or her personal decision. The patient is informed about the expected consequences and risks after the procedure. The next principle is justice. This states that all the new medical information is always available to the public. The medical practitioner should not partake in discrimination and share the information whether the patient is either poor or rich. Justice applied to considering a fair dist ribution of scarce resources, competing needs, rights and obligations, and potential conflicts with established legislation. All the technologies should be available for all in order to diminish medical dilemmas. Beneficence requires that all medical procedure provided for the patients should all be beneficial. The health care providers should also update their knowledge, skills, and training in order to fit in the demand of the evolving world. In all circumstances, the medical practitioner should strive for the benefits of his or her patients in order to give them quality service. The last one principle is non-maleficence; this requires the health care provider to do his or her best to not do any harm to the patient or anyone who is involved. If harm cannot be fully diminished, it is their duty to, at least, minimize it by pursuing the greater good. Some assistive reproductive technologies have limited success rate, so it is sometimes difficult for the medical practitioner to apply the â€Å"no harm principle.† Principles of medical ethics always serve as a guide for the medical practitioners to fulfill their duty. Ethical standards provide a basis to prevent committing errors in their career. Medical ethics is very important because it helps medical practitioners save their patients in the most critical operations. The code is a written and used as a living testament that is always available to be edited by medical practitioners and researchers.

The philosophy behind it is that everyone should have access to organically grown food that is not only good for the consumer but also leaves a greener carbon footprint on the entire planet. The members of the movement are determined to their cause of promoting regional cuisines and slow the accelerating growth of fast food culture. They organize events to promote the slow food culture, and seminars to tell about the health risks which the fast food poses to its consumers. Among many of their events is the ‘Ark of taste’.
